After gun massacres, prayers require actions

I read about “thoughts and prayers” for the people of Orlando, Fla. Presumably, these are the same “thoughts and prayers” we doled out to Sandy Hook and the other communities visited by mass murderers with assault rifles. What were we supposed to pray for?

Since I am told that “faith without works is dead,” my thought is that we pray for the removal from office of every lawmaker of whichever party so in thrall to the National Rifle Association that he or she asserts an individual has the right to express anger through the use of a weapon of mass destruction.

Our prayers can only be answered if we ignore the slogans and take action — in this and subsequent elections.
