Burgoo: July 8

In response to the Bowling Green City Commission's 3-2 rejection of his insistence that the trial of two Iraqi terrorism suspects be moved from Bowling Green to Guantanomo, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, told the Bowling Green Daily News: "The mere fact that the Bowling Green City (Commission) is forced to grapple with what to do with Iraqi enemy combatants who attacked American troops thousands of miles away underscores the absurdity of this administration's terrorist detention policy." In fact, the city commission would have felt no need to grapple with a decision best left to federal prosecutors if McConnell had not created such a flap by trying to scare his own constituents to score political points against Democrats.
