Wednesday was the International Day of Peace as designated by the United Nations, and Providence Montessori in Lexington celebrated. First there was music and the flying of a giant "dove." Then professional storyteller Antonio Rocha entertained the children.
Peace Day was created by a U.N. resolution in 1982 to encourage the creation of practical acts of peace around the world on the same day. In 2002, the U.N. made Sept. 21 the permanent day of observance. Providence Montessori, with students 18 months to 12 years old, has been observing the event for about 10 years.
