Southern Mississippi guard Darnell Dodson was reinstated to the basketball team and was eligible to play immediately.

The 6-foot-7 senior transferred to Southern Miss from Kentucky last January, but was dismissed from the program after pleading guilty to grand larceny last spring, according to the Hattiesburg American.

Southern Miss released a statement on Friday afternoon that said Dodson "has served his suspension with the university, fulfilled all obligations and is eligible to return to campus."

The statement said he will enroll in January and is expected to graduate in May.

Southern Miss (7-2) will host Mississippi (9-1) on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles have won five of their past six games.

Donovan gets new deal

Florida Coach Billy Donovan signed a three-year contract extension that should keep him in Gainesville through the 2015-16 season.

Donovan agreed to the extension in October, adding to the six-year deal he signed in 2007 that pays him $3.5 million annually.

Donovan has led the Gators to two national titles, three Final Four appearances and 11 NCAA Tournament berths in 15 seasons. His career record is 402-169, including 367-149 at Florida.

Donovan's base salary will be $220,000 from 2014-17, plus nearly $2.7 million coming from an activities agreement that includes television and radio programs/sponsorships, and basketball camps.

His incentives include $50,000 for a Southeastern Conference regular-season title, $37,500 for making the NCAA Tournament and $50,000 for a top-10 finish in The Associated Press poll. He also has graduation incentives.

Pitt freshman leaves team

Pittsburgh freshman center Khem Birch left the program. Coach Jamie Dixon says Birch, who is from Montreal, opted to leave for personal reasons. The highly touted Birch averaged 4.4 points and 5.0 rebounds in 10 games this season for the 15th-ranked Panthers (9-1). He started each of the last six games and shot 57 percent from the field on the season.
