Brooks says Cats practicing better

Coach Rich Brooks said the UK football team improved on Wednesday after a lackluster performance Tuesday.

”That's football,“ Brooks said of pre-season practice. ”The question is, do you feel sorry for yourself or do you push yourself through it? Yesterday we felt sorry for ourselves. Today it looked like we pushed ourselves through it.“

Brooks also said tailback Derrick Locke and tight end Ross Bogue returned to practice after sitting out the last few days because of injury.

”We have a lot of guys who are a little beat up, a little leg-weary, a little sore,“ Brooks said. ”Tomorrow's our last two-a-day and then we'll start backing off a little bit.“

Dixon, Kelley are captains

Tailback Tony Dixon and linebacker Braxton Kelley have been elected permanent team captains.

Dixon, a senior from Parrish, Ala., has rushed for 958 yards and eight touchdowns as a Wildcat. Kelley, a senior from LaGrange, Ga., has started since his freshman season and has 189 career tackles, none bigger than the game-clinching fourth-down stop in the triple-overtime win over No. 1 LSU last year.

They will be joined each week by two game captains selected by the coaches.
