Cards dodge Tigers' upset bid

LOUISVILLE — Samardo Samuels scored 20 points, fellow freshman Jared Swopshire added 14 points and 11 rebounds, and No. 3 Louisville held off Georgetown College 74-67 in an exhibition Saturday.

Vincent Crutcher led the Tigers of the NAIA with 18 points. David Graham added 16 for Georgetown, but the Tigers missed several free throws in the final minute that could have helped pull off the upset. It was the second time in three seasons they've gotten close to the Cards. Georgetown lost 94-92 in 2006.

Georgetown hung around for most of the game and took a 51-50 lead with just more than nine minutes left before the Cardinals put together a 12-2 run to go ahead for good.

U of L shot 39 percent from the field, was outrebounded 46-37 and committed 18 turnovers. The Cards went 33-for-50 (66 percent) from the free-throw line.
