EKU nips Austin Peay

Mike Rose scored seven of his 25 points in overtime to lift Eastern Kentucky to a 73-70 victory over Austin Peay.

Drake Reed led Austin Peay (12-8, 8-2 Ohio Valley Conference), which had a six-game winning streak snapped, with 18 points and nine rebounds.

Rose's dunk with 52 seconds left in overtime gave EKU (12-9, 5-5) a 71-68 lead. Rose and Josh Jones added free throws to seal the victory.

The Colonels didn't score from the field during a 12-minute stretch in the second half, and the Governors turned a five-point deficit into a 50-46 lead with 3:55 left in the game.

Justin Stommes scored 16 points, and Josh Taylor added 15 for EKU.

Sampson to appeal NCAA suspension

According to the Indianapolis Star, former Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson has appealed the punishment imposed by the NCAA in November that virtually prevents him from coaching at an NCAA school for five years.

Sampson resigned as IU's coach in February 2008 after his program was accused of five major NCAA violations.

The NCAA infractions committee accepted IU's self-imposed penalties, including the loss of a scholarship for the current season, without adding additional punishments.

Gottfried gets full buyout from Bama

Former Alabama coach Mark Gottfried will reportedly receive a full buyout of his contract worth more than $2 million, the Birmingham News reported Tuesday.

Gottfried resigned Monday midway through his 11th season at Alabama.

An Alabama spokesman said Tuesday morning that he couldn't immediately confirm the buyout information.

Auburn 66, Texas-Pan American 63: DeWayne Reed scored 14 points to help lift host Tigers.

Korvotney Barber had nine points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers.

P.J. Turner led the Broncs with 16 points.

No. 16 Purdue 64, Wisconsin 63: Robbie Hummel's go-ahead three-pointer with a minute left in the game lifted the visiting Boilermakers. E'Twaun Moore scored 17 to lead Purdue, and Keaton Nankivil scored a career-high 21 for Wisconsin.

No. 11 Texas 78, Baylor 72: A.J. Abrams scored 19 points, and the visiting Longhorns won their 23rd straight game against Baylor. Abrams matched the Big 12 career record for three-pointers (338).

State women

Austin Peay 67, Eastern Kentucky 51: Nicole Jamen scored a team-high 18 points, and Austin Peay pulled away early in the second half on the road. Kayla Drake led EKU with a game-high 19 points.
