Matt Giesler tipped in the ball as the horn sounded to give Newport Central Catholic a 43-41 win over Dixie Heights in the first round of the 9th Region playoffs Thursday at Highland Heights.
Senior guard Jeramie Connor scored 14 points to lead the Thoroughbreds. Connor's miss in the final seconds set up Giesler's tip-in to win it.
NewCath will face Holmes in the semifinals on Sunday.
No. 10 Holmes 41, Ryle 34 (9th): Junior forward Elijah Pittman scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help the Bulldogs score a first-round victory.
McCreary Central 76, East Jessamine 47 (12th): Junior guard Aaron Watts scored 30 points to lead the Raiders past East Jessamine at Lincoln County. The Raiders will play Lincoln County in the next round.
Lincoln County 67, Casey County 46 (12th): Senior guard Ethan Spurlin recorded 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the host Patriots in a romp over Casey County.
No. 18 Adair Co. 63, Bardstown 56, OT (5th): Nick Fudge and Darren Ballou paced the Indians, who pulled away from Bardstown in overtime in the first round at Marion County.
The Tigers scored the final four points of regulation to force the extra period, but the Indians pulled away with free throws and only allowed one Bardstown field goal.
Fudge scored 23 points and Ballou added 22 points and 10 rebounds for Adair County, which will play John Hardin in the semifinals on Sunday.
John Hardin 70, LaRue County 58 (5th): Senior center Chris White had 22 points and 10 rebounds to send the Bulldogs past LaRue County. The game was tied at 31-all at the half before John Hardin outscored the Hawks 17-8 in the third quarter.
Clark County 55, Scott 47 (10th): Junior guard Brittney Black scored 25 points and the Cards led from the beginning for a semifinals victory at Harrison County.
Clark County will face No. 9 Montgomery County in Friday's championship game with a trip to the Sweet Sixteen on the line. Montgomery County beat Clark in both meetings this season.
