Henry Clay searched far and wide to get its new girls' basketball coach and found him in North Dakota.
Justin Schommer, who most recently coached girls at North Dakota's Red River, will be taking over the Lady Devils' program next season, Henry Clay Athletics Director Amanda Christensen said.
But Schommer is not a complete stranger to basketball in the Bluegrass. He coached for two seasons at Danville before moving back to North Dakota, his home state, in 2004.
At Henry Clay, Schommer replaces Scott Cromwell, who coached for 13 seasons at Henry Clay with a 224-150 record and an 11th Region title in 2008. Cromwell resigned to spend more time with his family.

In his six seasons at Red River, Schommer went 90-54. His departure comes after the Roughriders' most successful season, a 21-4 finish and a trip to the state Class A semifinals.
Schommer, who was named the East Region coach of the year this season, led Red River to the state tournament in five of his six seasons.
In two seasons at Danville, Schommer had a 33-22 record, including a 20-8 mark and a trip to the All "A" Classic in 2004.
