All-Star weekend caps softball season

Several top softball seniors from the 11th Region will participate in various East/West All-Star events around Lexington this weekend.

Lafayette's Lauren Mitchell, Alyssa Oakley and Cassidy Taylor, Lexington Catholic's Lindsay Griggs as well as Scott County's Tanner Tevis and Franklin County's Emily Hampton are all slated to participate.

On Saturday, four games will be played at the University of Kentucky Softball Complex: the East Seniors vs. West Juniors game (9 a.m.), the West Seniors vs. the West Juniors game (11 a.m.), the East Juniors vs. West Seniors (1 p.m.) and the East Seniors vs. West Juniors (3 p.m.).

In the middle of the four games at around 12:30 p.m., the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association will present the Miss Softball award as well as various other statewide honors.

The Hall of Fame banquet will be at the Hilton Suites at 8 p.m. that night where several new members will be inducted, including former players Haleigh Ashworth (Owensboro Catholic), Deanna Baker (Reidland), Ali Ray (North Laurel), Amy Eichhorn (Franklin County) and Brittany York (Greenwood); coaches Stewart Caudill (Montgomery County), Jessie Huff (Hopkins Central) and Lynn Dickey (Heath); and umpire Paul Lewis of Ashland.

On Sunday at Paul Laurence Dunbar, the East Juniors will take on the West Juniors at noon followed by the East Seniors vs. the West Seniors.
