Centre season preview

Centre

Coach: Andy Frye (65-45 in 11 years at Centre)

Last season: 7-3 overall; 5-2 and tied for second in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference

Season outlook: Although 2009 will be Frye's 12th season at Centre, it will be just the second year for the Colonels with a spread offense. Frye made the switch before last season to benefit recruiting. "We're not signing any 6-4, 280-pound linemen. At an institution like this, we get smart, quick athletes, so we want to exploit that strength," Frye said. With one season of the new offense in the books, Frye said this year should run more smoothly as long as players stay healthy. Returning 14 starters and 23 seniors, the Colonels have the experience to compete for an SCAC title, Frye said.

Key players: RB Jonathan Pinque, LB Brian Sneed, S Sean Swallen, CB Zach Sloan
