Football: Louisiana Tech overpowers Hilltoppers

RUSTON, La. — Cody Sokol threw for five touchdowns and ran in a sixth to lead Louisiana Tech to a 59-10 win over Western Kentucky on Saturday.

Louisiana Tech (6-3, 5-0 Conference USA) never trailed as Sokol, who finished 30 of 42 for 335 yards and an interception, spread the ball around. Trent Taylor had nine catches for 113 yards and three touchdowns, Kenneth Dixon hauled in an 18-yard TD pass and ran in another score from the 48, and Paul Turner had an 11-yard TD grab.

Carlos Henderson returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown. It was the second game this season that Sokol threw five touchdowns as the Bulldogs outgained Western Kentucky (3-5, 1-4) in total yardage 507 to 297.

Brandon Doughty was 14 of 35 for 134 yards for Western Kentucky, including a 46-yard touchdown strike to Taywan Taylor. He extended his single-season record for TD passes to 25 and has thrown at least one touchdown pass in nine-straight games.

Doughty's completions, yards and TD passes were all season lows.

It was the Hilltoppers' worst conference loss in school history and their worst league setback since losing 46-6 against Tennessee Tech 46-6 on Oct. 16, 1965.
