CHARLESTON, Ill. — Jalen Whitlow threw for three touchdowns and Taylor Duncan ran for two more as Eastern Illinois defeated Murray State 48-26 on Saturday.
The victory set up a showdown for the Panthers (5-5, 5-1) at Ohio Valley Conference leader Jacksonville State (8-1, 6-0) next week.
After the Panthers took a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, the Racers (3-7, 1-5) closed to within 28-20 on Pokey Harris' school-record 100-yard kickoff return and KD Humphries' 9-yard scoring pass to Nevar Griffin. But Duncan scored his second touchdown, Whitlow threw a 16-yard scoring pass to Adam Drake and then ran 1 yard for another touchdown to secure the victory.
Whitlow, a transfer from the University of Kentucky, finished 27 of 37 with 312 yards. Duncan rushed for 171 yards on 30 carries as the Panthers rolled up a 654-483 advantage on offense.

Humphries was 29 of 38 for 306 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Georgetown 42, Union 12: Jalen Ashby returned the opening kickoff 97 yards to put the Bulldogs up 6-0, then it was all Tigers from there.
Georgetown (8-1, 5-0 Mid-South Conference) scored 42 consecutive points after the kickoff return, including 21 in the first quarter.
Demonte Smith rushed for two of those first-quarter scores. He finished with 40 yards.
Georgetown's Neal Pawsat threw for 344 yards and two TDs on 24-for-31 passing.
Ashby's kickoff return was his second this season, becoming the third player in Union history to reach that mark.
Campbellsville 30, Faulkner 21: The host Tigers scored 19 points in the second quarter and held the Eagles scoreless in the first half to hand the visitors their first MSC loss.
Campbellsville, ranked 25th in NAIA, outgained No. 4 Faulkner 480-305 and ended a three-game losing streak to the Eagles.
Jacob Russell (Anderson County) was responsible for much of the difference for the Tigers (6-3, 3-1), going 29-for-57 for 382 yards and two TDs.
San Diego 49, Morehead St. 28: Jonah Hodges rushed for 160 yards and two TDs to lead the Toreros (8-1, 6-1 Pioneer Football League) past the visiting Eagles (3-7, 2-5).
Keith Williams threw four TDs for the hosts. Morehead's Austin Gahafer (St. Xavier) threw for 215 yards and two TDs.
Thomas More 66, Case Western 34: Former Lexington Christian star Domonique Hayden rushed for 175 yards and four TDs as the Saints (8-2, 7-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference) pounded the Spartans (3-6, 3-5).
