Merritt, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound senior, is listed as a two-star prospect by Rivals.com and is the third player from LaGrange to commit to UK for the Class of 2009, joining linebacker Qua Huzzie and defensive end Tristian Johnson.
LaGrange Coach Steve Pardue said Merritt also received interest from Mississippi and South Carolina. While Merritt plays linebacker at LaGrange, Pardue said he could be a defensive end in college.
"He's a tall, rangy kid who can put on weight," Pardue said. "His best football is definitely ahead of him."
