University of Kentucky quarterback Patrick Towles left Saturday’s football game at Tennessee during the middle of the first quarter with an apparent ankle injury. He was back in the game by early in the second quarter.
The sophomore starter led Kentucky to a field goal and a 3-0 lead on the Cats’ first possession. The injury to Towles’ left ankle appeared to come on a play on which he was tackled during the game's opening drive.
When Towles walked off the field to the locker room with a member of the UK training staff, Kentucky trailed 7-3.
Towles returned to the lineup with 13:21 remaining in the second quarter. By then, Kentucky was trailing 20-3. Kentucky was unable to gain a first down on the Cats' first drive after Towles' return.
While Towles was in the locker room, Reese Phillips played quarterback for Kentucky.
