Former Kentucky women's soccer All-American Arin Gilliland was named to the National Women's Soccer League's Second XI in her rookie year, the league announced Thursday.

Other players who made the NWSL's Second XI included 2015 World Cup champions Megan Rapinoe, Lauren Holiday, Nicole Barnhart and Carli Lloyd.

"Making the Second XI is beyond anything I could have imagined for my rookie year," said Gilliland, who starred in high school at West Jessamine. "To be recognized alongside such tremendous talent and some of the NWSL greats is an honor and a very humbling experience. There's no way I could have done it without the daily leadership of my teammates. They allowed me to be the best version of myself by continuously pushing me to my limit and by quickly teaching me what it takes on and off the field to be successful in this league."

Gilliland started in all but two matches that she played in during her first season with the Chicago Red Stars, helping guide them to their first-ever NWSL playoff appearance. She has two assists and a 1.10 goals-against average.
