The Houston Astros organization named former University of Kentucky star AJ Reed its Class A Advanced player of the month for May.
Reed, a first baseman for the Lancaster JetHawks, hit 10 home runs last month. That was tied for most in the minor leagues. Reed also batted .327 with 29 RBI and a 1.080 OPS (.417 OBP/.664 SLG).
Reed, the first pick of the second round in the 2014 MLB draft, entered Tuesday's game at High Desert leading the California League with 13 home runs, and he was second in RBI with 42.
Reed added to both of those totals. He had an RBI single in the first inning and a three-run home run in the second in the JetHawks' 9-8 loss. Reed, who also singled in the seventh inning, is batting .294 with 14 home runs and 46 RBI in 50 games this season.
