Kentucky (16-20) loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh inning but could only generate one run and No. 12 Louisville (30-2) held on for a 2-1 victory Wednesday.
The host Cards took the lead in the first on a two-out RBI double by Taner Fowler that knocked in Katie Keller who had singled off UK starter Rachel Riley (4-5). Louisville added a run in the third when Keller doubled and scored on Fowler's single.
UK's Griffin Joiner and Brittany Cervantes walked to start the seventh and chase Cardinals reliever Chelsea Leonard.
Louisville starter Caralisa Connell (10-1) retook the mound, but an error loaded the bases with UK's Rachel Riley as the go-ahead run on first.
Connell got UK's Ginny Carroll and Alice O'Brien each to hit into fielder's choice plays at the plate for the first two outs of the inning, but then lost pinch hitter Emily Gaines on a walk to give the Cats their only run.
The game ended on Emily Jolly's flyout to left field.
