Tyler "Chip" McDaniel, a freshman from Clay County High School, has been chosen to represent the University of Kentucky in Monday's inaugural Northern Trust Open Collegiate Showcase at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
The winner of the 18-hole shootout, which features 14 of the nation's top collegiate golfers, earns a spot in next week's PGA Tour Northern Trust Open.
The event also features PGA Tour pros teamed with amateurs taking part in a best-ball competition in hopes of earning a $50,000 donation to the university golf program they represent.
Former UK standout J.B. Holmes will try to earn the donation for the Wildcats.
Holmes has already earned a $7,500 donation for UK this season. That came when he tied for the low round with a 68 on "College Day" at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego on Saturday. He ended up finishing tied for second after losing to Jason Day on the second hole of a playoff.
