Kentucky’s Beckie Famurewa and Madison Jacobs finished second and third, respectively, in women’s discus at the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday. Brad Szypka won the bronze in the men’s shot put. Both UK’s women’s and men’s teams were in fourth place overall heading into the final day of the meet on Saturday.
UK junior men’s golfer David Snyder remained in contention for a spot in the NCAA Championships, while freshman Tyler “Chip” McDaniel moved up the leaderboard on the second day of of the NCAA Regional in Lubbock, Texas. Snyder, a former Somerset standout, was tied for 22nd overall and second among players participating as individuals at 1-under par. The top two players either appearing as an individual or not a member of one of the five advancing teams from Lubbock will advance, too. McDaniel, who starred at Clay County, is tied for 46th at 3 over.
Kentucky’s baseball team lost 6-3 at Missouri. The Cats (29-24, 13-15 Southeastern Conference) jumped out to a one-run lead in the top of the third inning before Jake Ivory’s two-run homer gave Missouri a lead it would not relinquish. UK starter Dustin Beggs (7-4) suffered the loss, working 7 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and six runs, walking one and striking out five.
