UK women’s track team qualifies several to NCAA finals

NCAA Track and Field: The Kentucky women’s track and field team’s 4-by-100 relay team qualified for the finals on the second day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on Thursday. The team of Javianne Oliver, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Precious Hitchcock and Kianna Gray finished second in their heat in 43.55 seconds.

Also qualifying for the finals were UK freshman Gray in the women’s 100, freshman Camacho-Quinn in the 100 hurdles and 200, and junior Kiah Seymour in the 400 hurdles.

On Wednesday, UK sophomore Jacob Thomson finished sixth in the men’s 10,000 meters. Thomson, the Southeastern Conference champion in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters, ran 29:13.73 to score his first points at an NCAA meet.

After six of 21 events, the UK men were in 28th place with Thomson’s three points. Host Oregon was in first place with 19 points.
