MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Kentucky beat James Madison 8-3 Saturday before losing to Coastal Carolina 4-1 to split a doubleheader.
Freshman right-hander Sean Bouthilette got his first collegiate win after giving up just two hits over five scoreless innings in the first game of the day. Bouthilette, an Elizabethtown native, struck out three and walked just one batter.
Fellow freshman Cory Farris was the offensive star of the opener, going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Farris, a Florence native, was the designated hitter and batted in the fifth spot for the second game in a row.
UK jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Keenan Wiley led off with a walk and Chris Wade laid down a perfect push-bunt single. After Chris McClendon drew a walk to load the bases, clean-up hitter Troy Frazier got an RBI with a bases-loaded walk. With the bases still loaded, Farris ripped a two-RBI single into the opposite field, scoring Wade and McClendon.
