Kentucky scored the first seven runs but host Vanderbilt got nine of the next 10 the rest of the way in a 9-8 victory in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday night. Kentucky (16-8, 1-5 Southeastern Conference) led 7-0 entering the bottom of the fourth, but the Commodores slowly chipped away at the lead, plating one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth, two in the eighth and the decisive three runs in the bottom of the ninth.
In the opener, Vanderbilt scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and made them hold up in a 2-1 victory. UK freshman Taylor Rogers settled down and pitched eight innings, allowing seven hits — five in the first two innings.
■ Both of the Kentucky softball team's games Saturday came down to the last inning. It was a split decision for the Wildcats. Samantha DeMartine's two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh gave Kentucky (20-13, 5-7 SEC) a 4-2 victory against Georgia in the second game at the UK Softball Complex. ... In the opener, Georgia scored twice in the top of the seventh to win 4-2. DeMartine also homered in that game for Kentucky.
■ Kentucky's gymnastics team finished seventh at the Southeastern Conference Championships at Jacksonville, Fla. Florida won the team title with a 197.050. Kentucky had 194.800. Kentucky will learn on Monday if it has qualified for the NCAA Championships. UK will serve as host to the NCAA Central Regional Championships at Memorial Coliseum on April 10.

■ Kentucky junior Tyler Reed earned All-America honors for the third straight year after finishing 14th in the 200-freestyle NCAA swimming and diving championships at Columbus, Ohio.
