Kentucky baseball picked to finish fourth in the East

The Kentucky baseball team was picked to finish fourth in the Eastern Division, according to the Southeastern Conference coaches' poll released Tuesday. Florida, ranked No. 1 nationally in multiple pre-season polls, is predicted to repeat as overall league champion. The coaches voted Louisiana State as the winner in the West with 63 of 66 points. The Gators were a unanimous pick in the East, and the Cats got 33 points after going 13-17 in league play last season. A first-place vote was worth six points; second place counted for five, and so on. The order of finish in the East was Florida, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia and Tennessee. Kentucky opens the season at 5 p.m. Friday in South Carolina at the College of Charleston.

■ After going 4-1 at Florida International's Combat Classic, the Kentucky softball team cracked this week's ESPN.com/USA Softball top 25, according to the poll released Tuesday. Kentucky is ranked 24th, the second national rating in school history. UK was ranked No. 23 in early March of the 2010 season in the same poll.
