Just a couple days after back-to-back victories over then-No. 1 Florida, the Kentucky baseball team suffered a letdown in a 5-4 loss to Northern Kentucky at Cliff Hagan Stadium on Tuesday.
Kentucky led 3-2 going to the sixth, but NKU (8-16) scored three runs in the inning, highlighted by Logan Spurlin’s solo home run off Cats reliever Brad Schaenzer.
The Cats pulled to within 5-4 when JaVon Shelby tripled to lead off the bottom of the sixth and scored on Gunnar McNeill’s groundout. UK had just one more hit from that point on.
NKU starter Tyler Miller, who entered with a 7.11 ERA, allowed three earned in six innings to get the win. Luke Becker homered for the Cats (17-7), his first of the season.
