University of Kentucky senior Darius Miller is one of 21 college players invited to Colorado Springs, Colo., this week to try out for the U.S. team that will play in the 2011 World University Games.
The tryouts begin Friday and run through Aug. 7 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. The games will be played Aug. 13-23 in Shenzhen, China.
The team will consist of 12 players. Other players trying out include John Jenkins of Vanderbilt and Alabama teammates JaMychal Green and Tony Mitchell. (See list, B2.) Matt Painter of Purdue will coach the U.S. team. His assistant coaches will be new Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin and Butler Coach Brad Stevens.
"As a coach, I'm always looking for guys who play hard, take care of the ball and make good decisions," Painter said. "When you do those three things, you're usually pretty successful. Other than that, we'll look to see how different guys fit together on and off the court, and how guys' skill sets complement each other."
