Ex-UK basketball players schedule series of exhibitions

Former University of Kentucky basketball standout Jeff Sheppard announced plans Tuesday for a series of exhibition games next month between former UK players and some of the state's NAIA teams.

Sheppard, a member of UK's 1996 and 1998 national championship teams, said rosters for the "Big Blue All-Stars" would not be finalized for a few days but he did lay out a schedule of games in the news release:

■ Oct. 8 — Pikeville (at Eastern Kentucky Expo Center), 7 p.m.

■ Oct. 9 — Alice Lloyd (at Knott County Central High School), 4 p.m.

■ Oct. 10 — Georgetown (at Mason County High School), 7 p.m.

■ Oct. 11 — Union (at Pulaski County High School), 7 p.m.

■ Oct. 13 — Mid-Continent (at Graves County High School), 7 p.m. CDT.

Tickets will be available at the respective game sites.

Sheppard said he's organizing an additional game to wrap up the tour in Rupp Arena that would feature former Cats against a team of players from "some of the most hated and feared opponents from recent history," which Sheppard dubbed "The Villains."
