Auburn Tigers

Wednesday

Rupp Arena

(8 p.m., WKYT-27)

About the opponent

Location: Auburn, Ala.

Enrollment: 24,602

School colors: Burnt Orange and Navy Blue

Conference: Southeastern

Coach: Tony Barbee

2011-12 record: 10-5 overall, 0-1 SEC

2010-11 record: 11-20 overall, 4-12 SEC (Fifth place in Western Division)

All-time vs. UK: 17-85

Last meeting: Kentucky won 78-54 on Jan. 11, 2011, in Rupp Arena.

Outlook: John Calipari protege Tony Barbee got off to a rough start last season at Auburn, losing to Campbell, Presbyterian, Samford, and UNC Asheville. The Tigers remain a program in transition after the team's leading scorer and rebounder, guard Earnest Ross, transferred to Missouri. Barbee upgraded the Tigers' talent level, but Auburn might still be fighting to stay out of the SEC cellar. The Tigers opened league play on the short end of a 65-35 rout against Vanderbilt in Nashville on Saturday, Auburn's fourth loss in six games after an 8-1 start.

Tennessee Volunteers

Saturday

Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville

(Noon, ESPN)

About the opponent

Location: Knoxville

Enrollment: 27,107

School colors: Orange and White

Conference: Southeastern

Coach: Cuonzo Martin

2011-12 record: 8-7 overall, 1-0 SEC

2010-11 record: 19-15 overall, 8-8 SEC (Fifth place in Eastern Division). Lost to Michigan 75-45 in NCAA Tournament round of 64.

All time vs. UK: 66-146

Last meeting: Kentucky won 64-58 on March 6, 2011, in Knoxville, Tenn.

Outlook: Martin inherited a roster depleted by the early departures of Scotty Hopson and Tobias Harris and missing four of its top five scorers from last season. After a sluggish start in which Bruce Pearl's successor lost six of his first nine games, the Volunteers have begun to pick up steam. Tennessee's 67-56 upset over No. 13 Florida in the teams' SEC opener Saturday was the Volunteers' fifth victory in their last six games. Sophomore guard Trae Golden (14.8 ppg), junior forward Jeronne Maymon (11.1) and sophomore guard Jordan McRae (10.9) score in double figures for Tennessee.
