University of Kentucky freshmen Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist were among 25 players honored Tuesday as mid-season finalists for the John Wooden Award.

The Wooden Award goes to the player of the year in college basketball each season. No Kentucky player has won the award in its 35 previous seasons. Jimmer Fredette of BYU won last season.

Davis leads the nation with 4.6 blocks per game and entered Tuesday night's game two rejections shy of becoming UK's best single-season blocker. The Chicago native averages 13.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

Kidd-Gilchrist has started all 18 games for UK and is the team's second-leading scorer at 13.4 points per game.

The winner will be announced the weekend of April 6-8.
