At least one Las Vegas sportsbook is rooting against the University of Kentucky going undefeated this college basketball season after giving 50-1 odds on a perfect run by the Wildcats.
Kentucky, the nation’s top-ranked team, is 13-0 after a 58-50 win at in-state rival Louisville on Dec. 27. The Wildcats are a unanimous pick as No. 1 this week among the 65 voters in the Associated Press poll.
Nick Bogdanovich, director of trading at William Hill U.S., said that the sportsbook took 39 bets at 50-1 odds on the Wildcats becoming the first men’s college basketball team to go undefeated since the 1975-76 Indiana Hoosiers.
Those bets represent a six-figure liability for William Hill, Bogdanovich said.
“It’ll be interesting to see if someone can put a complete 40 minutes together, Kentucky has an off night and they slay Goliath,” Bogdanovich said. “It’s definitely going to get interesting.”
