Follow along Thursday afternoon as Jennifer Smith of the Lexington Herald-Leader and Kentucky.com provides live updates from courtside as the University of Kentucky women’s basketball team takes on Alabama in the second round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
The game is scheduled to tip off at 1 p.m.
Kentucky enters the tournament as the No. 9 seed, having finished the regular season 14-16 overall and 6-10 in conference play. The Wildcats’ only path to the NCAA Tournament is most likely to win the conference tournament and claim the league’s automatic bid to the postseason. That would require Kentucky winning four games over four days, mostly against highly ranked opponents.
The journey begins against No. 8 seed Alabama (17-12, 7-9), a team Kentucky defeated 79-54 in Lexington in their only regular-season meeting on Jan. 25.
The winner of Thursday’s game will meet No. 1 seed Mississippi State (30-0, 16-0) on Friday.
