Ex-UK women's player lands head coaching job

Jenny Finora, who went by Jenny Pfeiffer when she was a player for the University of Kentucky, was hired Wednesday as the head women's basketball coach at Coker College in Hartsville, S.C.

"Jenny is a rising star in the world of women's basketball," said Coker President Dr. Robert Wyatt. "We are very fortunate to have her joining our team, with her enthusiasm and passion for coaching; we feel she will be a great asset to Coker."

Coker, an NCAA Division II team, went 3-24 last season. Finora takes over for Carol Meegan, who retired. Finora will have to replace five graduating seniors, including the school's all-time leading scorer.

"With the community's support we will bring this team back to the top," Finora said. "The potential is limitless. I am looking forward to preparing the athletes to excel not only in the classroom and on the court but, also developing them as successful young women after college."

Pfeiffer, a native of North Vernon, Ind., graduated from UK in 2007 after helping lead the Cats to the NCAA Tournament in 2006 and the NIT in 2007. She ranks third all-time at UK with 162 career three-pointers and holds the career record for free-throw percentage at 86.1.

Finora spent the past year as a professional player and junior club coach in Iceland.

Before that, Finora served as assistant coach and interim head coach at Alabama-Huntsville.
