After Sarah Beth Barnette realized that Kentucky wasn't a good fit for her, she went out seeking a school that would be. The 2010 Kentucky Miss Basketball, who left UK in May, said on Tuesday that she has found that school in the University of Virginia.
"Virginia was everything I've been looking for," the former Lexington Christian standout said. "It's a beautiful school, a beautiful campus. ... I love the coaching staff there, especially Coach (Joanne) Boyle."
Barnette said she also loved the idea of playing in the competitive Atlantic Coast Conference. The 6-foot-2 swing player, who won a state championship and three All "A" state titles at LCA, will have to sit out a season per NCAA transfer rules.
While at UK, Barnette played in 29 of 34 games, averaging 1.7 points and 1.6 rebounds in 6.7 minutes of play.
"I'm going to miss playing in front of my family and friends," she said, "but I'm excited about what's ahead."
