UK freshman lineman T.J. Jones arrested on weapons charge

A Kentucky offensive lineman was arrested over the winter break in his hometown of Myrtle Beach, S.C., on a weapons charge.

T.J. Jones, a freshman who redshirted this past season, is being investigated for possibly bringing a handgun to the local high school on Dec. 18.

The report itself is vague, stating that "a possible incident that occurred in the locker room of the incident location."

The report, filed three days after the alleged crime, indicates that the weapons violation occurred at Myrtle Beach High School and that the investigation is open.

Jones' arrest was first reported Monday by WMBF, a television station in Myrtle Beach.

Kentucky spokesman Tony Neely said new UK coach Mark Stoops was out of town on business but was aware of the report.

Stoops plans to address the matter after he has "an opportunity to meet with the player and gather relevant information," Neely said.

Jones, 19, remains on the team and is on his way back to Lexington, Neely said. UK's spring semester begins Wednesday.

The 6-foot-6, 290-pound Jones won Class AAA state championships with Myrtle Beach in his freshman and junior seasons. He was a three-year starter there and was rated the No. 23 prospect in South Carolina by 24/7 Sports and No. 28 by
