Recapping Tennessee's 50-16 victory over Kentucky:
Summary: UK drove 77 yards to the Tennessee 9-yard line to start the game, settling for a field goal. Could they avoid another slow start? Nope. Tennessee easily moved 73 yards in five plays for a 7-3 lead. Meanwhile, UK quarterback Patrick Towles (who had a nice opening drive) limped to the locker room with a gimpy ankle. In came backup Reese Phillips. He was hit on an attempted pass which was picked off and returned 23 yards for a 14-3 Tennessee lead. By the time Towles returned to the game, UK trailed 20-3. Towles had a 2-yard touchdown run with 1:27 left in the half and Austin MacGinnis ended the half with a school-record 54-yard field goal. Of course, in between those scores, Tennessee easily marched for a touchdown.
Halftime score: Tennessee 33, Kentucky 13.
Thumbs up: Javess Blue had five catches for 129 yards.
Thumbs down: More bad tackling. More terrible defense.
Summary: It took Tennessee ONE play to score in the second half, and it was 40-13. UK's defense looked helpless. UK got deep in Tennessee territory but kicked a field goal. Trading field goals for touchdowns was not going to make this one interesting. Tennessee kept moving the ball at will, and Kentucky looked like a gassed team with no answers or energy.
Final score: Tennessee 50, Kentucky 16.
Thumbs up: Kentucky is off next week.
Thumbs down: There was nothing about this game to make it worth watching to the end.
