Belfry offensive lineman Cole Bentley announced Sunday that he has committed to the University of Louisville.

Bentley — a 6-foot-4, 310-pound prospect — is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 26 offensive guard nationally in the class of 2017 and he was the No. 2 recruit in Kentucky according to Rivals’ most recent state rankings. He received a scholarship offer from Louisville late last month.

Several other major college programs had offered Bentley, including Georgia Tech, Illinois, Purdue, Virginia, Air Force, Army, Cincinnati, Navy and Western Kentucky.

Bentley would be Bobby Petrino’s first in-state signee from outside the city of Louisville since he returned as head coach of the Cardinals following the 2013 season. Bentley is the eighth commitment for U of L’s class of 2017, and the first such pledge from Kentucky.

UK did not extend a scholarship offer to Bentley, and the program has not prioritized the guard position in the 2017 class. The Cats’ lone commitment on the offensive line for next year is Austin Dotson, an offensive tackle and teammate of Bentley’s at Belfry.

The No. 1 recruit in the state — five-star offensive tackle Jedrick Wills — is UK’s top remaining target for the class of 2017.
