The University of Kentucky landed a commitment Monday night from Josh Ali, a three-star wide receiver in the class of 2017.

Ali — a 6-foot, 175-pound prospect from Hollywood, Fla. — is ranked by ESPN as the No. 80 overall receiver in the class. He had reported scholarship offers from Iowa, Louisville, North Carolina State, Illinois, Pittsburgh, Utah, West Virginia and several other schools.

Kentucky now has 10 total commitments for the class of 2017, and Ali’s pledge comes less than two weeks after three-star recruit Russ Yeast announced that he was backing off of his commitment to the Wildcats. Yeast — the son of former UK great Craig Yeast — was listed as an “athlete” and projected to possibly play wide receiver for the Cats.

Ali, who joins four-star prospect Javonte Richardson as the second receiver in UK’s 2017 class, has new offensive coordinator Eddie Gran for a primary recruiter.

“I’ve seen the players Coach Gran put out and I can see myself as one of those players,” Ali told the Herald-Leader. “I love the offense that he runs, and I will be able to get my opportunity to play right away and have a chance to show my skills.”

Rivals.com will rank the Wildcats’ class at No. 36 nationally with the addition of Ali, who is considered a three-star prospect by all of the major recruiting services.

Ali had 56 catches for 896 yards and 15 touchdowns for University School in Fort Lauderdale last season. He will play his senior season at Chaminade Madonna in Florida.

Ali has not yet visited UK, but he told the Herald-Leader he will be in Lexington for the first time July 16.
