Kentucky’s Boom Williams was picked Third Team All-Southeastern Conference by members of the media in Hoover, Ala., this week for the annual Media Days.

Williams was the only player selected from Kentucky.

Defending SEC and national champion Alabama led the way with 13 total selections, including a league-best seven on the first team. LSU had 10 total selections, including four on the first team. Next in total selections were Tennessee (9); Florida (8); Auburn, Georgia and Texas A&M (7); Ole Miss (5); Arkansas (4); Mississippi State (3); Vanderbilt (2); and Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina (1).

The top vote-getters were LSU running back Leonard Fournette, Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly and Alabama wide receiver Calvin Ridley.

Williams, a junior running back, averaged a school-record 7.1 yards per carry last season, rushing for 855 yards in 10 games with six touchdowns.

Over his two-year career at UK, Williams has 195 rushes for 1,341 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has 2,088 all-purpose yards as well.

This is the second preseason honor for Williams, who on Thursday was named a preseason candidate for the 2016 Doak Walker Award, which annually honors college football’s top running back.
