Tommy Mangino, a former wide receivers coach at Iowa State, has accepted the new quality control coaching position at Kentucky, he announced on Twitter Tuesday night.
“We are excited to say our next journey will begin in Lexington, Kentucky with the Wildcat family,” tweeted the son of former Kansas coach Mark Mangino whose hiring comes on the heels of new wide receivers coach Lamar Thomas being lured away from Louisville.
Mangino served as wide receivers coach at Iowa State each of the past two seasons. Before that he was a graduate assistant at Arkansas. He also was offensive coordinator at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas in 2012, helping the Blue Dragons tie or break 15 school records.
Mangino won’t be on the core group of nine assistant coaches under UK’s Mark Stoops, but his job description includes serving as a “close assistant to a coordinator.”
