Class of 2012 small forward Alex Poythress told National Recruiting Spotlight, a recruiting Web site, that he expects to narrow his list of schools soon and that his most recent campus visit — to Kentucky — went well.
Poythress was in Lexington on Saturday, along with his mother, grandmother and two sisters, one of whom is a twin who is also being recruited by Kentucky to play volleyball. "I liked my visit," Poythress told the recruiting Web site, "It made a good first impression on me.
"I've been to Vanderbilt, Georgia, Florida, Memphis, Alabama and Tennessee before," Poythress said. "Kentucky was probably my favorite. I have no other visits planned."
Poythress, a 6-foot-8, 215-pound wing player from Clarksville, Tenn., said he got to spend a lot of time with Coach John Calipari.
"Coach Cal was talking about how they will lose a lot of people and how he needs players to play right away," Poythress said. "He also said he stresses player development but told me Kentucky isn't for everyone since not everyone can handle all the attention. I think I could handle it."
One thing in Kentucky's favor is that Poythress said he and his sister could probably go to the same school.
"My favorite part of the visit is how they included my sister and how we were able to talk to the volleyball coaches," Poythress told the Web site. "We also saw the volleyball team practice.
"I kind of want to go to college with her; we're pretty close."
