UK football: 4-star running back from Ohio commits to Cats

Another highly touted football prospect from Ohio committed to Kentucky's Air Raid revival Saturday.

Four-star running back Mikel Horton announced his pledge to UK at a Rivals football camp held at his high school. ranks Horton as the No. 22 running back in the class of 2014. The 6-foot-1, 230-pounder is regarded as the No. 209 overall prospect in the junior class. He also had offers from Florida State, Vanderbilt, Boston College, Cincinnati and Louisville, among several others.

Horton attends the same school — Lakota West High in West Chester, Ohio — as offensive lineman Kyle Meadows, who signed with Kentucky earlier this year and will play for the Wildcats next season.

Horton is UK's third commitment from the class of 2014. He joins four-star wide receiver Thaddeus Snodgrass, who announced for UK eight days ago, and three-star linebacker Dorian Hendrix. All three players are from UK Coach Mark Stoops' home state of Ohio.

"I see what they're doing," Horton told "I believe that UK is going to be like the U of Miami, where they weren't that good and then you gather everybody around the district and they all made it to the national championship and performed well. That's what we're trying to do at UK."

Horton said UK's coaches have told him that he is "the perfect fit" for Neal Brown's new offense.

"I found that school where everything that I needed was there," he told Rivals.

Braylon Heard, another running back from Ohio, will also be eligible to play for the Wildcats in 2014. Heard announced earlier this month that he will transfer to UK after playing two seasons at the University of Nebraska. In 19 games for the Huskers, he ran 77 times for 462 yards and four touchdowns.

Heard will sit out the 2013 season as a transfer.
