John Hardin defensive lineman Matt Elam picked up an offer from the University of Tennessee on Friday.
Elam — a 6-foot-6, 350-pound senior — is rated by 24/7 Sports as a five-star prospect and the No. 2 defensive tackle in the class of 2014. MaxPreps.com named him the pre-season frontrunner for Kentucky Mr. Football honors earlier this week, choosing Elam over UK quarterback commitment Drew Barker.
Mark Stoops and his coaching staff have made Elam one of their top priorities as they round out an impressive 2014 recruiting class. He visited UK last week, and he also has offers from Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Louisville.
Elam is not planning to announce his college decision until Jan. 4.
