Okafor announces official visit to UK

Highly touted basketball recruit Jahlil Okafor announced Tuesday that he will take an official visit to Kentucky on Sept. 9.

Okafor — the No. 1 center in the class of 2014 — previously said he would like to make a college decision before the start of his senior season. The 6-foot-11 native of Chicago has narrowed his list to UK, Baylor, Arizona, Michigan State, Ohio State, Kansas, Illinois and Duke.

The trip to Kentucky will be Okafor's second official visit. He is scheduled to visit Baylor later this month with Tyus Jones, who many analysts consider the No. 1 point guard in the class. The two players have spoken often about attending the same school and plan to take multiple official visits together.

Jones' high school coach told the Herald-Leader on Tuesday that he was unaware of any plans for Jones to visit UK in September but didn't rule out the possibility. Jones was in Rupp Arena in January to see the Wildcats play Texas A&M. That was an unofficial visit.

Okafor is considered the No. 1 overall player in the class by Rivals, Scout and ESPN.

■ Texas point guard Emmanuel Mudiay narrowed his list to five schools before ESPNU's broadcast of the Adidas Nations finals Monday night. Mudiay is now considering Kentucky, Kansas, Oklahoma State, SMU and Baylor. He cut several schools from his list, including Arizona, St. John's and Texas.

The 6-foot-4 point guard from Arlington, Texas is ranked as a top-five overall prospect in the class of 2014 by all of the major recruiting services. He is planning to attend Big Blue Madness in October.
