Bozeman's 30 power Morehead women past Austin Peay

MOREHEAD — Chynna Bozeman fired in 30 points and Courtney Lumpkin had a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds as Morehead State rallied from 11 points down to upend Austin Peay 70-58 Saturday at Johnson Arena.

Coach Tom Hodges tied the school record for victories by a first-year coach. Morehead is 16-6 overall, 9-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference, a half-game behind first-place Tennessee Tech.

Hodges equaled the wins achieved by Matthew Mitchell, now coach at Kentucky, when the Eagles went 16-14 in the 2005-06 season.

"I tell people 'I'm Tom Hodges, or Matthew Mitchell after taxes,' " Hodges said. "Coach Mitchell can directly be credited with getting this program on the straight and narrow ... and what Coach (Mike) Bradford did, and I'm just the benefactor of those two guys."

Morehead trailed 28-17 with a little more than five minutes left in the first half, but pulled to within 32-30 at halftime.

The Eagles took control from there, sealing the win by sinking 19 of 22 free throws.

"We started out slow a little bit in the first half," said Bozeman, a 5-foot-10 senior who earned OVC Player of the Year honors last season. "But we definitely came out in the second half and played defense the way we know how to play. Got just great production from everybody, and I think that is where the game turned around."

Ashar Harris added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Nicole Olszewski scored 15 for Peay (7-16, 6-5) and Dalila Thomas had 14.
