Central Kentucky could soon be the new home of the NAIA national women's basketball tournament, according to a report Wednesday in the Jackson (Tenn.) Sun newspaper.
NAIA officials announced Tuesday the tournament is leaving Jackson after 22 years.
The tournament's new location will be announced March 28, but Jackson officials expect it to be Frankfort, the paper reported.
The tournament has made an annual impact of $1.5 million in the western Tennessee town of Jackson.
This year's tournament started Wednesday and runs through Tuesday. Kentucky schools Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville open play Thursday.
Jamie Adams, NAIA manager of championship sports, said another city made a strong bid to take the tournament from Jackson.
"We wanted to see what else is out there," Adams said, "and we got a great offer from another city that we couldn't pass up."
