LOUISVILLE — Basketball recruit Kevin Ware will not enroll at the University of Louisville this fall after failing to meet NCAA initial eligibility requirements, the school announced Friday.
A waiver and subsequent appeal to the NCAA were both denied, and the 6-foot-4 guard from Conyers, Ga., will now work to try to get eligible in time for the second semester.
If he's successful, Ware, who signed a financial aid agreement with the Cardinals in June, could join the Cardinals as soon as Dec. 14, the day after U of L final examinations.
"I've never seen anyone this close to being eligible," said U of L Coach Rick Pitino. "He is just fractions away and he fully intends to enroll here."
