The Morehead State men's basketball team announced its 2014-15 schedule Tuesday, which includes 10 games against teams that played in postseason tournaments last season.
"As always, our schedule is pretty tough," Coach Sean Woods said. "It will be very challenging, but it's great for us. We need to be battle-tested going into Ohio Valley Conference play, as well as a possible run in March."
Morehead will play three teams that made last season's NCAA Tournament field — American University, Cincinnati and Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Kentucky, whom the Eagles will play twice.
Morehead State also plays two games against OVC foe Belmont, which was in the NIT last season along with Eagles' foe Green Bay and Louisiana Tech.
Opponents Murray State and East Tennessee State played in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. Murray State won that tournament.
The Eagles, who finished 20-14 last season, played in the College Basketball Invitational.
Morehead State opens the season Nov. 5 with a home exhibition against NAIA member St. Catharine, a small college near Bardstown.
The Eagles begin the regular season on the road at UNLV on Nov. 14.
Morehead State will play 13 regular-season games at home at Johnson Arena, including a visit from Northern Kentucky on Dec. 19.
The Eagles will travel to Ruston, La., in November for three games in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
"One benefit of having a schedule as tough as ours is playing against top-level teams and their different styles of play," Woods said. "Every night in our conference is a dog fight, so our team needs to be consistently challenged. Playing programs like UNLV, Cincinnati, Louisiana Tech, Ohio State, Green Bay and several others, in hostile environments, will prepare us well."
Morehead opens its 16-game OVC schedule at home against Murray State on Jan. 3.
