Several Kentuckians in NGA Tour event at Georgetown

Former University of Kentucky golfer Mark Blakefield of Maysville hopes past victories are a preview to more success in the Cherry Blossom Classic in Georgetown.

The NGA Pro Tour's 72-hole tournament starts on Thursday and continues through Sunday.

Blakefield won this event in 2008 and 2010. He had top 10 finishes in 2009 and 2011.

Blakefield's competition at Cherry Blossom this week includes eight of the NGA's top 10 money winners. Former Oklahoma State star and 2010 U.S. Amateur champ Peter Uihlein is among the notable names at Cherry Blossom.

Rick Cochran of Paducah, the nephew of PGA Tour player Russ Cochran, is among the Kentuckians entered, along with former UK golfers Ben Fuqua of Danville and Jordan Blann of Bowling Green, and former Florida State player Matt Savage of Louisville.

Defending champ Brandon Brown of Shelbyville isn't in the field. Brown, who led the tour in earnings last year and tops the list again this season, is playing instead in the Nationwide Tour's BMW Charity Pro-Am in South Carolina.
