The 97th Kentucky Open Championship gets underway at the University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville on Tuesday and the field is full of some of the state’s best golfers, including four members of the University of Kentucky men’s team.

Juniors Tyler McDaniel, Stephen Stallings and Cooper Musselman will vie for the championship, along with incoming transfer Evan Cox, who will have two years of UK eligibility. Cox finished eighth at the Kentucky Amateur Golf Championship in Ashland on July 14 and won the NCAA Division III individual championship last season while playing for Virginia Wesleyan. Musselman was runner-up in the 2014 Kentucky Open.

Logan Hogge, runner-up last year, will look to bring home his first Kentucky Open title. He finished one stroke behind last year’s winner, Kent Bulle. Bulle is scheduled to play in a Web.com Tour tournament in Hayward, Calif., this week and won’t be defending his 2015 title.

The field also features the top three finishers from this year’s Kentucky Amateur Championship. Owensboro’s Andy Roberts won the amateur title by three strokes over Joe Deraney and Denver Haddix Jr., both of Lexington. Roberts will be chasing his second Kentucky Open Championship (2010).

The first round gets underway at 8 a.m. Tuesday with the second and third rounds Wednesday and Thursday.
