FRIDAY's kickoffs

CITY GAMES

No. 5 Bryan Station (4-1) at Tates Creek (2-3), 7:30 p.m.: Tates Creek has averaged 43.5 points since scoring just six in its opener against Scott County. It will host the only defense in Lexington to allow fewer than 100 points. Station has also scored the fourth-most points in Class 6A.

No. 19 Lafayette (3-2) at No. 14 Henry Clay (3-1), 7:30: Both squads have allowed more than 1,000 yards rushing this season, meaning the points could pile up quickly. Defensive lapses have been the Generals' downfall in their previous two games against ranked opponents. The Blue Devils are on a three-game win streak since dropping the opener to St. Xavier.

No. 21 Lexington Catholic (3-2) at No. 17 Cooper (3-2), 7:30: Each was handed two losses by top-15 foes. In LexCath's favor is that its offense and defense were both firing on all cylinders last week at Madison Central; the Jaguars held Simon Kenton to 26 points last Friday but couldn't get much going on offense.

Lexington Christian (4-1) at Fairview (3-2), 7:30: No city result was more shocking than LCA's one-point loss to then-winless Walton-Verona. It will try to rebound against the Eagles, who feature a dynamic two-way athlete in Antwan Washington and 6-foot-4 signal caller Alex Roy.

Paul Laurence Dunbar (2-3) at Anderson County (3-2), 7:30: Dunbar takes a two-game win streak on the road and will get a chance to see what it's made of against a Bearcats club that's dropped games to Boyle and Franklin in consecutive weeks.

TOP STATE GAMES

Mayfield (4-1) vs. Corbin (3-2) at Lindsey Wilson, 7 CDT: Corbin is on a two-game skid while the Cardinals bounced back in a big way against Graves County last week after a close overtime loss to McCracken County.

No. 25 Paducah Tilghman (3-2) at No. 24 Caldwell County (4-1), 7:30 CDT: Dee Cain, a Western Kentucky commitment, has scored TDs in three different ways for Caldwell this season. Tigers quarterback Shane Burns has completed nearly 70 percent of his passes for almost 1,200 yards. The Blue Tornado finish a three-game road trip.

No. 7 Bowling Green (4-1) at No. 18 Central Hardin (3-2), 7:30 CDT: Central Hardin has gone 1-2 against top-25 opponents. No team this season has come closer to beating Class 3A Boyle County, which came away with a 21-19 win to open the season against the Bruins. The Purples squeaked out their lone top-25 game, a 17-14 win against Owensboro at home.

Shelby County (5-0) at Franklin County (5-0), 7:30: Two of 4A's top offenses collide. The Rockets have allowed just 21 points through four games since a 31-30 win over Garrard County to open the season. The Flyers have given up 80 points over their last three games.

No. 6 St. Xavier (3-1) at Pleasure Ridge Park (4-1), 7:30: The positive for PRP? It gets its second chance in as many weeks to prove its 4-0 start wasn't the product of a soft schedule. The negative? Its freshest memory is a 44-0 stomping by Trinity.

Shelby Valley (3-1) at Prestonsburg (2-2), 7:30: This is the third in a string of five home games for Prestonsburg. Shelby Valley gets to see how far it has come since a 60-6 shellacking at Franklin County in its opener.

Montgomery County (4-1) at Southwestern (4-1), 7:30: Both have hit their stride and could just as easily be unbeaten. Combined, the two have allowed only 117 points this year; that's fewer points than 22 other teams in Class 5A have given up.

Madison Central (3-2) at Woodford County (3-2), 7:30: Talk about two teams that are hard to get a read on: the Indians have been outscored 91-20 in the past two weeks and Woodford has given up just 30 in the same span. Central's opponents have been much tougher, though.
